About Us

The North County African American Women's Association grew out of a need to provide mentors for women and girls who were participants in the SOLO Project, part of the federal Carl Perkins 1990 Vocational Education Act. The grant required that the Oceanside Unified School District collaborate with a community-based organization who could provide mentors for women attending ROP Programs or other job training programs. In the fall of 1995, the organization elected its officers and wrote the bylaws, this established North County African American Women's Association.
